Research is an important phase of UX design. Knowing who you are designing for is crucial to a project’s success.

In order to empathize with your user, it helps to have as much information about their wants, needs, frustrations, etc. as possible. Once you have that data, it’s difficult to know what to do with it all, and how to communicate that data to Stakeholders. That’s where I come in.

My skills as a researcher are called upon during multiple phases of the design process. Below are some of the skills that I take pride in, and a few of the tools that I bring to each project.

Survey design

I really enjoy creating surveys. There are multiple programs out there to use, each with its own strengths and weaknesses. A good survey - with the right number of questions and a balanced amount of quantitative and qualitative data - is a great first step toward defining a project’s path.

For examples of past surveys I have created, you may view them HERE and HERE

User interviews

I am a total people person. I love talking to new people and connecting over an impossibly large range of topics. I’m pretty sure this is why User Interviewing comes so naturally to me. Using the soft skills from my previous careers, I approach User Interviews with compassion and an open mind.

I always make my interview subjects feel comfortable sharing information with me, and I take great pride in my listening skills. I ask the right questions to get subjects talking; making the flow of information natural, the boundaries of their answers wide, and the specifics of their experiences sharp.
